Are ESG Policies a Priority for Business in Africa?

  • PwC Tower Waiyaki Way Nairobi, Nairobi County Kenya (map)

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) is rapidly moving up the agenda for businesses globally. Clear ESG metrics are now a critical feature for fundraising as international pressure to invest more sustainably gathers pace. Extractive industries, high exposure to climate change, and developmental needs mark the African reality, representing clear obstacles to the rise of “green” and “clean” investment strategies. As global investors demand that African companies meet ever more stringent targets, we will be asking how businesses can fulfil local needs whilst meeting international standards.

Robust governance and compliance procedures are an essential pillar of risk mitigation in African markets, allowing investors to commit for the long-term with confidence. In this session, panellists will discuss the best practices in compliance and corporate governance for companies in Africa, the impact of new technologies in streamlining processes and improving analytics, and the role of good governance in promoting African countries as strong investment destinations.

Running order:

  • 08:00-09:00: Breakfast & Networking

  • 09:00-10:00: Panel discussion

  • 10:00-10:30: Q&A Session & Networking
