Sylvia Chahonyo, Managing Director, East Africa, GCR Ratings

Sylvia joined GCR from Moody’s Investors Service, where she was the Sub-Regional Head for Africa Relationship Management, Country Manager and Executive Director for the Moody’s South African franchise. She was responsible for driving the agency’s growth into Africa from 2014 to 2019.

Prior to Moody’s, she was with the Standard Bank Group for 13 years where she was responsible for structuring, executing and originating DCM transactions in sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to this, Sylvia worked in Standard Bank’s global markets team and for Stanbic Kenya (now CFC Stanbic), where she established and headed the legal, compliance, credit support and corporate governance departments.

Sylvia was the first Kenyan to participate in the Clipper Round the World and Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
