Brian Gonsalves, Vice President: Group Security and Human Rights (Group Sustainability), AngloGold Ashanti
Brian is currently Vice President: Group Security and Human Rights (Group Sustainability) for AngloGold Ashanti, a position he has held since 2009. Collectively he has worked in the mining industry for 33 years.
AngloGoldAshanti are the third largest gold mining company in the world, the largest on the African continent and operate on 4 continents with operations in 10 countries. Brian has been with AGA for 12 years and his role includes responsibility for Community and Government Affairs, Human Rights and Security. Vastly experienced across Africa and Southern America, the Extractives sector and specifically in the international gold value chain. Brian represents AGA on the Steering Committee of Voluntary Principles.
He is part of the Sustainable Development Leadership team within his organisation and previously also headed up the Group Community and Government Affairs function within the organisation. His role also includes co-ordinating Crisis Management for the organisation and is intrinsically involved in the COVID-19 business response.
He has been a member of the Security Executive Council (USA) and currently a member of ASIS International and has also served on several national and international forums for Security and Human Rights.
He has been involved in the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPs)s Initiative since 2007, and through the years served on the Board of the VPs Association and the VPs Initiative Steering Committee, which he currently serves on as a Corporate Pillar member.
