Lord Popat is a Conservative Peer, Party Whip and former Minister of the Crown for Business and Transport in the House of Lords. He was appointed as the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Uganda and Rwanda in January 2016.

In 2010 Helen Grant became the first Anglo-African female Conservative MP, her father is Nigerian, and her mother is English. Helen was appointed as the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria in October 2020.

Between 1992 and 1997 Lord Bates was the Member of Parliament for Langbaurgh constituency. In the House of Commons he served as a senior Government Whip, Paymaster-General in the Cabinet Office and Sponsor Minister for North East England. In 2008 he was appointed to the House of Lords. Lord Bates was appointed as the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Ethiopia in October 2020.
