Jeanine Mabunda Lioko, Member of Parliament for Bumba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Former President of the National Assembly of the DRC
The Honourable Jeanine Mabunda Lioko Mudiayi was the first woman elected President of the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), serving in that role from April 2019 to December 2020. She previously served as the Special Representative to Combat Sexual Violence and Child Soldier Recruitment, from 2014 to 2018. She has also served as Minister of Portfolio & Public Enterprises, Executive Director of the Fonds de Promotion de l’Industrie (FPI), and as a Member of the Board of the Barrick Gold Corporation. She is currently a Member of Parliament for Bumba, DRC.
In 2016, the Foundations of the Prince and Princess of Monaco presented the Better World Award to her office in recognition of the DRC’s progress in curbing child soldier recruitment and sexual violence. She also received the 2019 Woman of Influence Award from the Generation Femmes d'Influence organization, based in Paris, France. Mrs. Mabunda earned her law degree from the Catholic University of Louvain and a bachelor's degree in business sciences from the Catholic Institute of Higher Commercial Studies (ICHEC) in Brussels
