Edward Kateka, Principal Legal Counsel & Compliance Officer, Equinor Tanzania

Edward Kateka is the Principal Legal Counsel and Compliance Officer for Equinor Tanzania AS based in Dar es Salaam, a subsidiary branch of Equinor ASA, a Norwegian energy company. Equinor Tanzania is currently in the early stages of the construction of a fully integrated Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project in southern Tanzania after making off-shore discoveries in 2007.

Within Equinor, Mr. Kateka has also acted as a consultant and advisor in the Midstream and Marketing department at Equinor ASA in Norway, where he worked closely with the trading department assisting in negotiating, drafting and executing contracts for the buying and selling of the various oil and gas products within Equinor’s asset portfolio.

Previously he was an Associate in the Corporate department of Norton Rose Fulbright, an international law firm based in Dar es Salaam and briefly worked in South Africa. With a background in corporate law, his career expands over several industries providing regulatory, business and investment advice to foreign investors in the energy sector as well as the mining, real estate, telecommunications, intellectual property and agricultural sectors.

Edward is qualified as an Advocate of the High Courts of Tanzania and was called to the Bar of England and Wales at Gray’s Inn, Inns of Court, London UK. He also has a master’s in international law from the University of Hull, UK.
