Veronica Bolton-Smith, Chief Operations Officer of Invest Africa, has been named as one of the Most Influential People of African Descent in the Business and Entrepreneurship category.

The Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) identifies high achievers of African descent in public and private sectors from all around the world as a progressive network of relevant actors to join together in the spirit of recognition, justice and development of Africa, its people on the continent and across its Diaspora. The award takes place yearly in support of the International Decade for People of African Descent 2015-2024, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 69/237.

Karen Taylor, CEO of Invest Africa, commented: ‘Veronica is a leading figure in the Invest Africa team and I am delighted that she is being recognised for her contribution to fostering trade and investment in Africa over the course of her career.’

Veronica has 16 years’ experience in Africa-centred public-sector and commercial roles with a focus on trade, energy and international development. She has worked closely with British and African governments as well as with numerous private sector companies to build productive business partnerships. At Invest Africa, Veronica is responsible for managing business development strategy, operations and government relations.

On the award Veronica Bolton-Smith said: ‘It is a true honour to be recognised in this way and also to be among such a fantastic and accomplished line up of nominees. I’ve always held a deep passion to support Africa’s development through business, trade and investment and I am delighted to have seen the growth of a generation of young and dynamic people in the African diaspora spearheading Africa’s success story. Invest Africa also has provided me with a platform to further economic development and connect the right investors to investment in the continent I love’

The recognition week for MIPAD Class of 2019 will be taking place from 27th September to 3rd October in New York.
