We held 8 receptions in parallel with  the Africa Investment Forum – the AfDB‘s marketplace platform. The functions covered unfolding and pertinent African affairs including energy, mining, infrastructure and what it will take to create an optimal environment for increased local and foreign direct investment. Among our distinguished speakers and guests, South Africa’s Minister of State Enterprises, H.E. Pravin Gordhan, who highlighted that ‘…on the continent we need to do extraordinary things to ensure intra-regional relations are of the highest order and more collaborative. We shouldn’t expect all 54 African countries to meet the highest levels of requirements that investors are seeking. Instead, we should try to create centres of excellence, and then in ten years-time we will have far more areas that have gradually reached the expected levels.
