Cross-Border Fintech Collaboration: Connecting African Markets

  • Cape Town Cape Town, WC South Africa (map)

Africa is set to become the fastest growing fintech region in the world, and the introduction of digital technologies is significantly changing the African financial services landscape. Historically, traditional banks struggle to overcome the high operating costs and complex infrastructure issues, while fintechs must juggle the challenges of regulation & compliance across the continent.

Collaboration between these two sides, often pitted against each other, offers great promise within the financial services sector, making it more efficient for people to perform transactions and access affordable and reliable financial services. Banks have the ability to bring their well-established consumer base to the table, while fintechs can inject more dynamic and innovative strategies to traditional banking.

There are still many challenges to overcome, with the current regulatory landscape acting as a major obstacle to digital payments in Africa – with such varied regional technical standards, many digital payment methods in Africa are closed loops and incompatible with other regions.

Increased collaboration will ensure that financial services across Africa drive innovation, enable more seamless delivery of financial services while facilitating inclusive growth across the continent. Join us as our speakers discuss and debate the opportunities of increased cross-border fintech collaboration, as well as strategies to overcome challenges in the digital financial services landscape.
