The team at Invest Africa work tirelessly, using their varied backgrounds and experiences to promote growth and success both in the UK and abroad. Our aim is to be a central and influential driver in Africa’s economic growth by guiding sustainable capital towards key prospects on the continent. From hosting 32 events across 2017, Invest Africa has grown to host 100 in 2018, and this expansion is reflective of the ambition and motivation inherent to all of the team’s work.
Rob Hersov is a South African entrepreneur, senior executive and private investor based in Cape Town. He serves as Chairman and Chief Executive of Invest Africa, Chairman of African Capital Investments, deputy Chairman of VistaJet, Chairman of Adoreum Partners, and Chairman of AON South Africa. In 2013, Rob saw an opportunity to create a platform for the growing number of individuals becoming involved in pan-African investments and founded Invest Africa.
Karen has been involved in promoting African trade and investment since 2014. She joined the Business Council For Africa in 2015 and in 2017 completed a merger with Invest Africa; creating the leading business and investment platform for Africa, in the UK.
She has more than twenty years experience in the events industry within private and listed events companies in the UK. Her background includes business development activity in acquisitions and joint ventures in the UK and in the developing markets of China, Russia, Africa and Dubai.
Veronica joined Invest Africa in February 2018 as Strategy and Development Manager. Veronica is responsible for building and strengthening relationships among high-level government representatives in order to create and broaden opportunities for Investment in Africa. She brings 16 years’ experience of Africa-focused public-sector and commercial roles focused on trade, energy and international development. Veronica’s passion is to foster growth through trade and investment in Sub-Saharan African nations.
Constança de Sampaio Soares
Constança joined us from Moody’s Investors Service, where she worked for 6 years across the Ratings Desk and Commercial Team focusing on building relationships with key decisions makers across Africa, including Sovereign, Corporates, Financial Institutions, and MDB’s. Prior to that, she worked for two top Spanish and Portuguese Investment Banks.
George Arnold is the Business Development Manager at Invest Africa where he is responsible for generating new avenues of financial growth for the organisation. George joined the organisation after completing an MSc in Imperial History, with a focus on Africa, at London School of Economics.
Annette Barrett has been working with Rob Hersov since 1993 as his Executive Assistant. She provides “right hand” business and personal support to Rob in all of his varied businesses. Over the years she has gained a wealth of knowledge and an impressive list of contacts in a number of sectors. At Invest Africa she looks after the South African chapter, events and members, and in the UK she works on the global partners programme.
Philippa joined the team in September 2018 as Member Relations Manager, mainly to lead on all UK members related activities. Philippa previously worked at the Ampleforth College in North Yorkshire where she ran all aspects of the Alumni Society for two years. Prior to this, Philippa was studying at St Mary’s University in Twickenham.
Susan Jones was born in Sydney, Australia. She spent her formative years in the UK, South Africa and Zimbabwe. She subsequently worked in Tenerife and Zimbabwe, and the last 30 years between South Africa and the UK. Before joining Business Council for Africa, Susan worked in the Consumer Finance Industry within the Prime and Sub Prime sectors and in the Logistics industry.
Alexander joined Invest Africa in January 2019 as our Partnership and Events Manager, after working at an African human capital consultancy firm. He is responsible for creating and executing business development and marketing initiatives to drive our strategic partnerships, developing content, liaising with business stakeholders, and end-to-end management of conferences and events. Alexander has a BA from Durham University in French and Latin.
Elizabeth joined the team in January 2019 as Business Development Manager, mainly to lead on all South African members related activities. For the past six years, Elizabeth has worked in the African property sector working for API Events, Terrace Africa, AttAfrica & Actis where she ran all aspects Marketing, Operations and Communications/PR. Elizabeth has honours in both Psychology and Marketing from the University of Cape Town, Unisa and IMM Graduate School as well as Red & Yellow.
